We believe PLYT is the most effective resource to help improve numeracy available in the marketplace today.
Schools are always on the lookout for the best products to help engage their pupils. But with so many resource options available how can teachers make the right decisions? A few things spring to mind:
1. Proven to work
Research into PLYT shows that by playing PLYT at least once per week over just 6 weeks numeracy improved in 7-13yr olds by 30% (read more here). PLYT has also been endorsed by leading maths consultants Sense of Number and National Numeracy – the charity set up specifically to promote good numeracy across the country.
Very few resource can claim that level of credibility.
2. Value for money
There are several considerations to consider when judging value for money – how many children can use it, what areas of the curriculum does it cover, how much does it cost, can it get parents more engaged ?
- How many children can use it?: Most educational resources are aimed at one specific age or ability level – however PLYT is designed for all ages and abilities which means it can be used in every year group from 4 upwards. One game to cover the entire school – KS1 & KS2 – and even better, children love to play and don’t realise they’re learning. Read what a few teachers had to say about it
- What areas of the curriculum does it cover?: PLYT is incredibly flexible and as a result it can cover a wide range of the curriculum (read here the areas we’d recommend). That’s why leading maths consultant Sense of Number are using and recommending PLYT on their teacher training numeracy courses.
- How much does it cost?: We offer a great discount to schools (25% on a case of 6 games – contact us to order) and can also arrange a discount for parents of children at those schools (we’ll provide a unique code to the school that will entitle parents to 10% off via the website – giving parents even more reason to get involved)
- Can it get parents more engaged?: “If parents engage with their children’s
education, the attainment of the child will increase by 15% no matter what the
social background of the family” – Professor Charles Desforges. PLYT was designed specifically to allow adults and children to play an educational game together and as a result it’s perfect for parental engagement – and that’s why National Numeracy are recommending PLYT and including it in their parent toolkit website (click to read). A great way to get parents involved at your school is by running PLYT competitions – what’s more, they can also be used as regular fundraisers to pay for the games and other resources in future. 3. Ease of Use
PLYT is very easy to play – the rules are straightforward and there are loads of options and top tips on the website to help you find something that works for you. However, we understand that teachers are very busy and it might not be ideal for each teacher to spend time reading game rules and options – and that’s why we’re also offering a PLYT Training Course for schools wishing the understand how the game can work for them.
The session lasts from 1 to 3 hours and is designed to demonstrate how PLYT can help your pupils at school and at home with many of the topics on the new curriculum. The course can be done in person or remotely over the internet – and included in the price is a case of 6 games. We hope you’ll find this a very efficient way to learn how to PLYT and if you would like further details please contact us
